I don’t know how else to bring up this frank subject other than to say right here and now that if you are too modest and delicate to read my comments that hit below the belt, this may be the moment to opt out.  Once you start reading further, though, I’m sure you’ll agree that what may preclude you from reading initially will have you saying, “Yes, Joseph.  Tell it like it is, Joseph!”  I just want to be up front about where this is all headed.

Meandering through Paris last week, I caught my slack-jawed reflection in a store window upon recognizing just how much black clothing was looking back at me in many store windows throughout Paris.  The image authority on color and style who always tells everyone not to overdo “the black thing,” had seen his Waterloo in his most favorite city.  On the very long plane ride home to California from France, I did what I do best:  think.

The Road Less Traveled…

As our European vacation was drawing near, many friends, family, colleagues, and clients questioned a meaty portion of our travel itinerary.  No one questioned the logic of our traveling to the Cote d’Azur for some frolicking fun, French style.  No one questioned our curiosity to check out Monaco’s cachet or to see the perfection of tiny and tony Portofino along the Italian Riviera.  And everyone knows we have an ongoing love affair with Paris.  No one would dare accuse us of any wrongdoing in going there.

Whomever questioned our travel logic – seemingly a legion – wondered, why Genoa, Italy, though?  Good question.
