Defining the Concept of Image From Deep Inside

Every time someone contacts me because he or she is interested in improving their image, our initial conversations begin by defining the concept of image.  I ask each individual why he or she is interested in the possibility of working together.  Their answers play an important part in defining the concept of image.  Since image covers several fields of study, it’s important for me to understand how an individual is defining the concept of image.  Not only does it end up being the basis for how we may work together, but it helps people get clear about why this is an important pursuit and goal.

Lessons From Whitney: Learning to Love Yourself Is the Greatest Love Of All

With a voice peerless in her generation and looks to match, Whitney Houston seemed to have it all.

A young Whitney Houston sung the lyric, “Learning to love yourself, it is the greatest love of all,” on her debut album back in 1985, released a few months after my dad passed away.  Could she have known that loving herself would be the challenge of her life?

That song – and the entire album – helped me through a very rough time in my young life.  Even more importantly, the sound of that musical compilation – and that voice – inspired a generation.

When Your Image and Style Are Frozen It’s Time to Change

When was the last time you looked at the clothing in your closet and said, “these are some awesome clothes?!”  It’s a terrible feeling to open your closet door day after day to a wardrobe to look at every morning that you feel disconnected from.  Time and again, clients tell me just how often they feel frozen when looking at their clothes to dress in the morning, to go out at night, as well as for special occasions.  This arresting feeling is not a promising way to begin any day of work, of leisure, or an exciting night out.

Purging Your Wardrobe: Letting Go and The Certainty Factor

Why is purging our closets always so damned painful.  I think it has a lot to do with something I call The Certainty Factor.

The Certainty Factor is a principle based on variables of knowledge and confidence.  It’s hard to let go of possessions if you don’t know what you’re replacing them with – even if you know that what you’re holding onto could be replaced with something better.  If you don’t have the new and improved yet, why let go what you have?

The Road Less Traveled…

As our European vacation was drawing near, many friends, family, colleagues, and clients questioned a meaty portion of our travel itinerary.  No one questioned the logic of our traveling to the Cote d’Azur for some frolicking fun, French style.  No one questioned our curiosity to check out Monaco’s cachet or to see the perfection of tiny and tony Portofino along the Italian Riviera.  And everyone knows we have an ongoing love affair with Paris.  No one would dare accuse us of any wrongdoing in going there.

Whomever questioned our travel logic – seemingly a legion – wondered, why Genoa, Italy, though?  Good question.
