Top 4 Reasons to Develop Your Personal Style

In over twenty years of helping clients develop their personal style [wow, that’s a long time!] I have come to appreciate the chief reasons clients decide to develop their image. There is a quiet power that comes from experiencing a whole new sense of self.

1. To Get Style
Those within a few years of graduating college are often in search of their own style. They realize they’re still wearing collegiate style clothes to work and to just about everywhere else. The look says they’re having trouble growing up, even if that’s not the case.

Women who dress their husbands as they dressed in college twenty years earlier often do so because they don’t want their husbands eyed by other women. This sometimes leads some of these men to an independent streak including a need to get some style. Others who no longer identify with a style may also take an interest in style as if they are starting from scratch.

2. To Make an Impression
There are points in life when making a positive impression becomes important. Getting hired for a big job or promotion, getting into the dating scene, meeting your love interest’s parents, pitching a venture capitalist for funding, asking for someone’s trust. For some, making an impression is a constant occurrence. For others, it’s crucial, but infrequent. Regardless of the frequency, many people decide to develop their image because of an impending impression-making opportunity.

3. To Reinvent

Different than lacking personal style and wanting to have one, reinventing one’s image and style is all about being stuck. Have you seen a friend [you’d never admit it could be you, anyhow] whose hair is frosted like it was popular in the 1980’s? This is the look I now refer to as “frosted and frozen in time.” But men are just as prone to being frozen in time – maybe from the Stone Age – with a mullet! After years of not shopping and wearing clothes that were once in style, the look is dated, outmoded.

Recently, I helped a client with a very extensive wardrobe purge his gorgeous Armani Black Label suits, among many other items. While they all still fit his unchanged physique and were all very pricey, he came to appreciate the dated shapes and silhouettes of all that we eliminated together. More than a reinvention, he is a Renaissance in process.

4. To Experience Self-Discovery

There are those who have style, nothing to prove to anyone, and aren’t looking to reinvent themselves. But they are interested in uncovering new aspects of their style they haven’t explored before. Exploring personal style with me accesses information about your lifestyle and goals, personality and physicality, balancing all this information into a comprehensive profile. Even the very stylish individual can discover practical and amazing information and further refine your style and image.

And just who is more fascinating than you?
